FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW LONG DOES A TREATMENT TAKE?

A Bowen treatment takes between 45 mins- 1 hour. The first session often takes a little longer as time is needed for a full consultation?

CAN I BRING SOMEONE WITH ME TO MY TREATMENT?

It is important that you feel comfortable and able to relax during your treatment and if this means having someone with you in the room then please do so. Ideally the treatment takes place in relative silence to allow you to relax and engage with the changes that take place in your connective tissue and nervous system.
Please note that anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING TO A TREATMENT?

Just yourself!
It helps enormously if you wear loose comfortable clothing and try and give yourself enough time before and after the treatment so you don't feel rushed either end of the session.
For your own benefit it is recommended that you turn all devices off for the duration of your Bowen treatment.

ARE THERE ANY CONTRADICTIONS FOR BOWEN THERAPY

No. Bowen is suitable for all ages and all conditions.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT TO FEEL AFTER A BOWEN TREATMENT?

Most clients feel a deep sense of relaxation and ease in their bodies. It is common to feel a little dehydrated and it is recommended that you drink more water following a session. many Bowen clients feel their body has been readjusted and aspects such as their shoulders, neck and hips feel looser and more mobile. Changes can take place immediately after a session but often it is in the week or two following a treatment that the benefits really come to light.

CAN I COMBINE BOWEN WITH OTHER THERAPIES?

There are some practises such as remedial exercise, homeopathy and herbalism that complement Bowen but ideally a client would not combine Bowen Therapy with other hands on treatments. It can interrupt the natural course of readjustment and self healing that takes place with Bowen.

WHAT IS THE ORIGIN OF BOWEN THERAPY?

Tom Bowen of Geelong, Australia, was a quiet, reserved and enigmatic man with an uncanny gift for healing. By the mid 1970’s, Tom’s reputation had spread and his clinical skills in his ‘Bowen Therapy’ were in great demand. In 1975, Tom was treating an astounding 13,000 people per year. Tom was not only a healer, but a gifted teacher, truly generous with his gift.  He chose not to claim or copyright any of his work, but taught a number of students with the hope that his technique would grow and spread around the world.

Bowen Therapy is now practised globally and aligned with some of the leading anatomy research centres in the UK Europe, North America and the USA.
